Core Crown revenue: NZ data and downloads: definitions

Revenue of the core Crown (government departments, Offices of Parliament, the NZS Fund and the Reserve Bank), measured on an accrual basis from 1994. Mostly tax, but also investment income, sales of goods and services and other revenue. Shown in $ millions and as a percentage of nominal GDP.

Core Crown revenue: NZ data and downloads: comparison limits

These affect how the figures can be compared.

  • Accrual series starting 1994; before that, see "Historical cash measures (to 1993)", which are not directly comparable.
  • 1994–1996 are prepared under old-GAAP, 1997–2004 restated to IFRS, 2005 onward restated to PBE Standards (Treasury notes PBE adoption reduced both revenue and expenses).
  • Nominal values. Inflation-adjusted and per-person views will be added once the CPI and population series are connected.
